Exciting New Project

Valley In Motion has started an exciting new project to connect South Scranton to the Pinchot State Forest. This new walking and biking trail will connect to newly-acquired portion of the Montage Tract, allowing rare access to thousands of acres of state forest lands within city limits of Scranton.

Thanks to a Pocono Forest & Waters Conservation Landscape mini-grant awarded in 2025, we are working with Studio 9 landscape architects to develop a feasibility study and concept plan. This plan will help our partner collaborate to determine access, maintenance, and liability issues. Engaging with neighbors and adjacent housing communities, we are helping to build a recreation resource that serves both the neighborhood and visitors to this rare and wonderful recreation opportunity.

This project highlights collaborative partnerships to ensure the Lackawanna Valley’s vast resources find their best and highest uses, strengthening sense of community and quality of life for our neighbors. Our partners include the Anthracite Bicycle Coalition, Geisinger Health, Individual Abilities in Motion, Lackawanna Heritage Valley, PA Department of Conservation and Natural Resources, Scranton Housing Authority, and Trust for Public Land.
