Where Collaboration, Creativity, and Outdoor Recreation Meet
Valley in Motion is helping the Lackawanna Valley become fun and welcoming places for outdoor recreation! With a partnership grant from the PA Department of Conservation and Natural Resources, we are helping Archbald, Carbondale, and Forest City use the Lackawanna River and its trails to improve access to nature and quality of life.
Valley In Motion is helping the Lackawanna Valley become a more fun, welcoming, and accessible place for outdoor recreation. With support from a partnership grant from the PA Department of Conservation and Natural Resources, we’re working with Archbald, Carbondale, and Forest City to use the Lackawanna River and its trail systems to expand access to nature and improve quality of life for everyone.
We believe that trails, parks, and outdoor spaces are powerful tools for revitalization. This initiative helps each community shine as a welcoming gateway to adventure—inviting residents and visitors to explore, connect, and enjoy the outdoors. From designing vibrant murals to creating ADA-compliant physical and visual access to the river, we’re giving people more reasons to stop, experience, and support local businesses. These improvements help make our towns more walkable, more bikeable, safer, and more dynamic—restoring them to the roles they were originally built to serve.
True to our mission, collaboration is at the heart of this work. We’re partnering closely with local leaders, residents, and organizations to build an active, inclusive, and economically thriving region. There is tremendous community energy in Archbald, Carbondale, and Forest City, and we’re excited to keep that momentum growing.
Many thanks to our partners in this effort, including Archbald Borough, Archbald Neighborhood Association, Borough of Forest City, City of Carbondale, Forest City Outdoor Town Action Team, Gravity Slope Committee, Individual Abilities in Motion, Lackawanna Heritage Valley, and Trust for Public Land.
