Forest City Mural Project
The Borough of Forest City and its nonprofit partner, Valley In Motion, look to brighten downtown with murals that strengthen Forest City as an Outdoor Town. Valley In Motion is looking for multiple artists to paint mostly small murals at up to nine selected sites, ranging from 60 to 600 square feet in size.
The deadline to apply for this project is Sunday, March 15, by midnight.
This project will have a two-step process.
A mural committee will choose artists based on applicants’ portfolios and resumes.
The mural committee will assign artists to particular walls. Each artist will then work with the mural committee and building owner to come up with a design, then paint it.
The themes for the murals will come from the community itself, generated at a community meeting that selected artists will be encouraged to attend.
Artists will be selected based on their portfolio and skills/experience with similar projects. They should ideally have some experience with murals, street art, and/or airbrushing techniques. Selected artists will be asked to create a design for review and approval by the property owner. Artists will begin painting mid-May with a completion date of June 30.
Commission fees for design and implementation will range from $800 to $5,000 per mural, depending on the size of the artwork, and including materials. Artists may be selected for more than one mural site. Artists should anticipate using high-quality paint specified by the Forest City mural committee. The mural committee will ensure that all walls are prepped, primed, and seal-coated at no cost to the artist. The mural committee will also provide lift equipment as needed at no cost to the artist.
